"Oh, my god, shrinks," Kate said, rolling her eyes. There was only so many doctors someone could see before they sort of realized most of them didn't have the slightest clue. Her mother had seen every doctor Kansas had to offer and no one had been able to help her.

"I know they're supposed to help and all, but I don't know if a single one ever helped my mom," she said. "Maybe that last one helped a bit, but not much."
