Kate's back to drinking tequila again. That's never a good sign. Tonight it's a sign she's bouncing between sexy check-in notes with Declan that make this island seem all right and people like Coraline screaming and crying over how much it fucking sucks.

The smart thing to do would be find Will or Magnus, talk some of this out. Even finding someone to spar with, that would work. Thing is, Kate's not that kind of smart. When it comes to helping Coraline? Sure. Yeah. She's been listening to Will do his shrink thing for years now. But when it comes to herself?

Fuck that noise. She'd still rather fuck and forget.

Kate leans her back against a post to watch the room, drinks another shot (hot wheels only, no training), and flirts at whatever makes eye contact. Whether she's Go or just Show, she hasn't decided yet. Mostly, she's trying not to look for anyone in particular. She's trying not to wish he'd come in and just...

The kiss actually makes Kate awkward. It feels more like cheating than anything she's done with other people.

She lifts her hand and slides Magnus's hair back behind her ear, then seamlessly puts a little more space between them as part of the con. "A little anticipation's a good thing. Why don't we finish our drinks first?"

Helen leaned back and went back to her drink. "Is that how you'd play me, then? If you were honestly trying to get me to go home with you?"

Helen didn't think Kate would be shy about public affection but it was hard to tell, given Helen wasn't willing to go far enough to make it a possibility. She loved Will too much to fathom it.

Kate cocks her head and thinks about that. It only takes a few seconds for her to know it's wrong. "No. I'd probably just tell you I was interested or wait until the right moment and kiss you. I respect you too much to pick you up when we've both been drinking. I wouldn't want you ever to think it'd been a mistake or a game."

She smiles again, takes a long sip of her beer and then shrugs. "I'm pretty straightforward when I'm serious, I guess."

"That's rather sweet, Kate," Helen said, still feeling a bit pink and pleased about the whole situation. "I'm actually fairly serious when I'm pursuing someone I care about too."

"I've been called a lot of things in my life, doc, but sweet's not one of them." But she grins anyway. It's nice to be able to let Magnus know how much she cares about her without anyone being at death's door.

"I think you can be, sometimes," Helen countered. "You are right now. I'm fond of this side of you, Kate, I truly am."

"Let's just let that be our secret, okay?" Magnus's drink is sitting untouched at the edge of the table. Kate pushes it across to her on two fingers, then lifts one to her lips, shushing.

"So, are we on for the beach?"
