girlsolo: (sometimes she's just pretty)

[Oct. 13-20] full stops and exclamation marks

Kate's back to drinking tequila again. That's never a good sign. Tonight it's a sign she's bouncing between sexy check-in notes with Declan that make this island seem all right and people like Coraline screaming and crying over how much it fucking sucks.

The smart thing to do would be find Will or Magnus, talk some of this out. Even finding someone to spar with, that would work. Thing is, Kate's not that kind of smart. When it comes to helping Coraline? Sure. Yeah. She's been listening to Will do his shrink thing for years now. But when it comes to herself?

Fuck that noise. She'd still rather fuck and forget.

Kate leans her back against a post to watch the room, drinks another shot (hot wheels only, no training), and flirts at whatever makes eye contact. Whether she's Go or just Show, she hasn't decided yet. Mostly, she's trying not to look for anyone in particular. She's trying not to wish he'd come in and just...

Take her home.

[OOC: Find her at the Hub or the Winchester (let me know) any evening between now and the 20th. Available for all of your Freelander needs. If you need a specific date, email me, otherwise I'll work them out. For the record, Kate's very bi but a lot less available than she thinks she is.]

"Maybe again," William murmured, but he wouldn't pursue it much further. He was getting the feeling this was going to be one of those interviews where he got a lot of interesting quotes he didn't entirely trust.

Well, he could work with that.

"So you'd like it viewed almost as a kind of protest against the situation itself? Directed not at the people whose belongings you, let's say redistributed, but against whatever forces or persons are responsible for this whole affair?"

Kate's getting bored fast. Bored's not a good look on her. Her fingers start walking up his chest, looking for something to hook into to haul him close. "Maybe that's all a wink and a shimmy to distract you from me picking your pocket or maybe it's a fancy shuck and jive for I'm pissed off about being here and I was acting out or bored or pulling pigtails."

Without lifting her fingers away, Kate reaches behind her for her drink and takes a sip. "Have you ever stolen anything?"

William eyed her fingers with some consternation, attempting to find a way to lean away from them without falling backwards off the chair or disengaging from the conversation.

He also reflexively patted his pockets, although he didn't carry much beyond pens and the voice recorder. Which he supposed was part of her point.

"I took several books from my brother when I was a child," he said, "although I don't know that it counts."

But mentioning it meant that he could avoid mentioning the time he'd taken several thousand dollars worth of gems from a man trying to kill him.

That had been his father's money, though, so he didn't particularly feel that it counted.

"Yeah?" Kate sits back, letting him go to lean on the bar and cross her legs. She takes a long drink while she looks him over again. She gets the sense there's more there. Something he's not saying, but he can have his secrets. Whatever they are. She doesn't need them and she's sure as fuck not sharing hers.

"Why'd you do it? How'd it feel? What happened?" It's clear from how she's asking, the smirky little drawl that she's not asking for her health. She's making a point.

"He wasn't using them," William said. "My brother wasn't much of a reader. I'm fairly certain he didn't actually notice. Much like most of your- victims really isn't the right word."

[identity profile] girlsolo.livejournal.com 2011-10-22 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
"So you 'liberated' them from someone who didn't appreciate them?" It's pretty funny, and not as uncommon a motive for thieves she's known. Especially art thieves.

Richie Rich shouldn't have that because he can't understand it. He doesn't feel the passion for it. It's just another toy to him.

She smiles, sharp, but almost patient. "He had them, you wanted them. It's pretty simple. My victims, might as well call a spade a spade, had things I wanted. Why I wanted them--" Kate rolls her shoulders. "Had nothing to do with them or the people I took them from. It had to do with me."

"More or less," William said. "I don't think it's quite the same when it's family, but I take your meaning. Why did you want them, then? Obviously not to keep."

[identity profile] girlsolo.livejournal.com 2011-10-22 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
"Sorry. That part's personal." It's no one's business except hers and Will and Magnus and Declan's what she needed when she took those things. Even if she could put it into words, she wasn't going to do it for the Small Town Times.

"'Driven by motives that shall remain a mystery,'" William said, reading aloud what he was writing down. It would do, he supposed. "Did you expect to be caught?"

[identity profile] girlsolo.livejournal.com 2011-10-22 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
"Eventually." But not necessarily by the IPD. It turned out, later, that Will had been how she got caught, and no one but Billy Kaplan had actually gone to the IPD. She smiles again, Mona Lisa, but her eyes are warm. "It worked out for me, and I'm doing what I can to make it right with everyone else. There's your quote."

"Would you like me to add in, 'and apologizes to anyone affected by her actions'?" William asked. "It's easy enough to do. Unless, of course, you've already been doing that in person, as part of the above."

[identity profile] girlsolo.livejournal.com 2011-10-22 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
"I have been." She weighs it, then shakes her head. "I don't think you should put it in the paper. It sounds...like I'm trying to score points."

Now she actually looks uncertain and reaches for her drink. "I don't know. Maybe you should. I am sorry that people were hurt or upset. But if I read that, I'd be annoyed like the person who hurt me thought that was enough. I guess I don't really think like normal people about stuff like that, though?"

[personal profile] dogbitesman 2011-10-22 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
"It depends on the person," William said. "In my experience, 'normal people' is a very difficult term to pin down. I mean, I could phrase it, 'feels an apology alone isn't enough,' since it seems you do."

[identity profile] girlsolo.livejournal.com 2011-10-22 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
Kate eyes him suspiciously. "Do I get to see this before you print it?" Because asking his opinion isn't the same thing as trusting him. No way. If he says yes, she can show it to Will or Declan or Magnus and make sure she's not being a screw up again.
dogbitesman: (*cough*)

[personal profile] dogbitesman 2011-10-22 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
People always asked that.

"No," he said, without hesitation. "But I won't print anything you didn't actually say or indicate to be the case. And if you feel I have misrepresented you, well, I'm not a hard man to find, you can come and complain. Or write a letter. We don't get nearly enough letters."

[identity profile] girlsolo.livejournal.com 2011-10-22 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
"Then we're done talking." Kate sits up and scoops her beer off the counter. When she stands, there's more power in it than grace. "Try not to make me sound too interesting. I'm not. I'm just another thief who got caught."

[personal profile] dogbitesman 2011-10-22 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
And that was likely to be the final quote of the article, right there.

"Well, I'll just write what happened, and let the readers be the judge of how interesting you are," William said. "Thanks for your time."

[identity profile] girlsolo.livejournal.com 2011-10-22 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
What Kate really wants to say is Oh, fuck off, but she waves her hand at the end of her wrist and says, "Sayonara, inkblot. See you around."
