Day two of island fuckery sends Kate looking for one of her least favorite people. The way things go down doesn't change that opinion. It just makes it a little more mortifying.
"Please tell me at least you haven't drank the Kool-Aid," Kate says, almost conversationally, as she slips onto the unoccupied seat next to one of her least favorite people in the world, which doesn't stop him from potentially being her favorite person in this Cuckoo's Nest. She smirks sharply. "And that you're buying.
"Oh but of course dearest Katherine. Now, I skip to the lab every day in suits made from curtains singing about whiskers on kittens and bla-bla-bla. What do you think?" Nikola said, scoffing at the idea that he would settle in this place like dearest Helen and her concubine. He might appear to be fitting in but well, Nikola was always the master of the long con. And he had a spectacular one in mind. "No economy which means there is no passion, no drive but... the drinks are free. We'll have another round."
Nikola clicked impatiently, smirking as two glasses appeared in front of them. "I take it you've seen Magnus and her concubine."
"There's one thing this place has going for it." Her eyes are still rolling when she reaches for the glass. She'd like to say she's not one for self-medicating, but she's really gotten out of the habit of lying to herself because she can't even start that one with a straight inner face. At this point, she doesn't even care what they're drinking, so long as it keeps coming.
"Yeah, I saw them. I materialized or whatever Star Trek bullshit gets us here right into Will's bedroom. Where he and their furry little love child were having a nap with Magnus's nightie." If it's not as scathing as it could be, she's just not used to dishing with Tesla yet instead of dishing at him.
"No economy and no passion to drive science forward but there is free alcohol. Here's to that," Nikola said raising his glass in the air. Nikola grinned wickedly at Kate before replying. "Which one of them was wearing the nightie? Only I don't think Will has the legs to pull of one of Helen's little numbers, well not now anyway. Has he told you yet how he was a woman one weekend?"
"The bedpost. From the cow eyes, I think I'm just glad Magnus wasn't there not wearing it." Kate tips her glass at Tesla, but she's not so down with him that she wants to actually touch glasses. Especially because she is happy for them. It was just... if they have each other, and they don't know her, and she can't remember whatever they'd obviously sent her in here to remember (that was what she was going with right now), she's just Kate Freelander again, girl solo.
She drinks the alcohol down before she can think any more about that, one long swallow, and shakes off the unexpected bite, shoving the glass across the counter at the bartender and growling. "So what do we do, about being here? If we even are here and this isn't some kind of Abnormal headtrip."
Nikola smiled, attention waivering as he thought of Helen not wearing one of those lovely little things. Nikola may have been scientifically minded that didn't mean he was dead, not technically though his death certificate said otherwise. And Helen was still, well Helen even if she had apparently lost her mind and had decided to start shagging the help.
"Well, Dorothy all you have to do is find your yellow brick road, tap your feet three times and say there's no place like home." Nikola said finishing the last mouthful and waiting for the refill. "Or- well, we could always do a little recon on the islanders. A little stealing, a little hacking, the usual to figure out what we do next."
Nikola already knew what he was doing next but well, he wasn't playing his hand so soon. Oh, no. "And whilst we do that we blend in."
Kate makes a face and gestures at her clothes, from the knee high boots to the studded bracelets. "Yeah, because I look like a tropical islander." Her gaze sweeps the bar and picks up a couple of hot guys and a handful of marks and she smirks a bit, slow and sultry. "I guess I could cash this in for a bikini top and a sarong."
The prospect of having time to get some isn't enough to distract her from either the alcohol or the problem of being stuck here, whether here is inside her head, someone else's, in some kind of experiment, or actually here here, though. "Will said that you're from later than he and Magnus and you told them about Hollow Earth. You think maybe this is the Council's doing or something?" Something about that... "Oh, and you're a schmuck for not telling him that Ranna cured Magnus. Unless you didn't know. In that case, Ranna cured Magnus. She's fine."
But Will's not, and suddenly Kate feels sick again. She pulls her drink in and pounds it, even though she knows there's not enough alcohol and sex in the world to make her forget that Will's dying at home, there's nothing she can do, and now she's not even there for him. Probably.
"Yes, I think the island council is behind this. Have you met them? They're... perky. They wouldn't have the talent except for Helen maybe to be behind this." Nikola said before looking at Kate in realisation. She was further on in time than him. "You found a way in to Hollow Earth."
Nikola smirked at Kate, looking at a way to use this to his own advantage. If he could find out the specifics, he could possibly start applying that to his work in the lab. "Who's Ranna? And why didn't I cure her? Do you know how long I've been working on this? I've finally figured a way to reset her body back to a prior event and she goes and gets herself cured. Typical."
"Will got her cured," Kate lies, instant and automatic and absolutely flawlessly. As weird as Will and Magnus being a couple is, at least she can do something for Will here. "He told the leader of the Praxian Council, Ranna, we wouldn't help them if they didn't cure Magnus, so they did." She smirks to sell it. "Totally whipped. At least that hasn't changed."
"William doesn't have a clue on how to differentiate between a solid and a liquid let alone discover the cure for radiation poisoning." Nikola replied reaching for his drink and downing it in one go at the discovery that it had been Will who had helped Helen. He might not
understand science as well but he was good at the puppy eyes and he could just imagine some silly council giving in to dearest, darling William. "Of course he did. Of course it was Wilhelm who saved her when I've been working endlessly. Of course. "
Nikola tapped the bar, looking for another drink as he scowled at the thought. "And how are you finding our wonderfully whipped Will?"
"Will's Will." Kate swallows down the defensive answer along with about half her beer. She doesn't like how moody she feels. How one second she'd sell her body to protect Will and the next she wants to crawl away and hide from him forever. It's familiar, because she feels that way at home, but he doesn't feel the same about her. And Tesla's not exactly the person she wants to talk about any of this with, not that she wants to talk about it at all, but she would with Hank or Biggie.
"It's weird. Them not knowing everything." She leans on the bar counter, looking him over. "Does it bother you?"
