Aidan knew what the note in his box meant. Or at least what it likely meant. They had both lost someone they loved and they both had self-destructive tendencies. Not the healthiest way to deal with loss, no, but damn if it wasn't good. Better than good, it was amazing. They knew and respected each other well enough that they didn't need to dance around issues and they knew just how to get the other going.
That didn't mean he couldn't be a gentleman about it though, or that he had to assume that was all she wanted. Kate wouldn't have minded if he had, she wasn't the type of woman to get offended about something like that, but he still showed up with a bottle of wine and knife for her. Not that she wouldn't appreciate flowers or something like that, but Aidan thought this was more of a 'booze and sharp things' kind of evening.
He wasn't going to kid himself though, the anticipation of having a night with her was exciting and frayed his nerves a bit raw. It called up desires in him that were a bit closer to monster than man. Or maybe that was just the predatory feeling people got in general about sex. He would never consider Kate prey though, that was impossible. But maybe having two predators was what made it exciting.
