In the game of I never, Kate almost always loses. She grew up fast and grew up hard, and she's done all the things people usually ask about and plenty they don't. But if the question was I've never arranged a date for my boyfriend on his birthday, Kate wouldn't have to drink. She probably would drink, because truth isn't an absolute for Kate. It's what she wants someone to know or not know about her.

She's given up lying like breathing but she didn't tell anyone (but the one person who counts) she's never done anything like this before. The whole package. The individual parts are familiar. Like the LBD she put together from scraps of black fabric from the clothing box. The black heels which she hates to walk in, but are fine for standing, eating, and fucking in. The bland beige belted trenchcoat (hand-fitted, but not re-pieced). Even the loose shoulder-brushing curls and hints of kohl around her eyes. All familiar. Dinner reservations, check. Surprise dessert (or breakfast, depending on how they roll), check. Note in his mailbox and on his door, check. It's just putting them all together and making them work she's not sure about.

Not that she's ever admitting that to anyone. What Declan doesn't know, doesn't hurt him. And right now all he knows is to meet her at her place at sunset. Where she'll conveniently not be, just long enough for him to sit down and wait while Kate watches, invisible from behind some nearby trees.

In the heels, she almost doesn't have to lean up to kiss him. She does anyway, swaying into him for a quick brush of their mouths. Then she pokes him in the chest and pushes him backwards through the door until she can close it behind her.

She could sing, but decides not to distract and just keeps pushing until he's by the futon. Instead of telling him to sit, she pushes gently, eyebrows up and head cocking toward the bed. C'mon. Play along.

Declan settles on the edge of the bed, eyebrows high and mouth easy with a grin. He's not really sure what she's after, exactly, but if she's got plans, he doesn't want to muck them up.

"How should I sit, then?"

Kate wishes she had an actual bed with an actual frame instead of a low to the ground futon, but this works well enough. Besides, it's a good angle for him. She quirks him a tease of a smile. "Like that's good."

Instead of going straight for the belt, she pushes her hands deep into the pockets of the trenchcoat to reveal a little skin at her neckline.

Declan tilts his head and admires her openly, since that seems to be what she's after. The promise of cleavage is a nice one and he's eager to see more, if she's offering.

"You look bloody gorgeous. You know that, don't you?"

"Yep. Like something out of your own personal spank bank," she teases him, a low, sexy little purr rolling off her lips. They both know she looks almost exactly like that, only she knows something he doesn't.

While she works open the knot in the belt of the trenchcoat, she takes a step closer and lifts her high-heeled foot to rub against the inside of his calf. "Sorry about the heels, though. The box wouldn't give me anything red but ruby slippers." She'd probably been wishing for them to find a way home at the time.

"Somehow I think I can forgive you," Declan murmurs, running his hand lightly up the line of her leg. Not under the coat, though, because if she wanted that, she'd say so.

"I wouldn't use that exact term for it, though. I prefer fantasy."

"Pretty sure you'll manage, yeah." When she steps back again, she gives him a saucy little wink and tugs one end of the belt free. The coat doesn't fall open, but a little anticipation (especially since she knows he'll be surprised) is never a bad thing.

"Spank bank too crass for you, British?" Teasing him is just second nature by now.

"A little," Declan says, laughing all the same. "Considering you're the woman I love and all. Spank bank's a little much."

Accurate, though, and he watches with interest as she tugs the belt away.

"Pfft." Kate rolls her eyes at him playfully. This is about the least traditional striptease ever, but it works for them. "Considering I'm the woman you love--" And, oh fuck yeah, she gets a charge off that even if she's not ready to go hog-wild and admit it herself. "You can be as crass about me as you want."

She opens the belt and the trench starts to open. Not enough to reveal the dress underneath, but enough that a step or a sway of her hips will. She drops her voice, too, to purr, "I gotta admit, British, I like the idea of you jacking off over filthy thoughts of me when I'm not with you."

He has before, certainly, and especially in the period where they weren't actually having sex, but he's not sure it's something he should actually mention to Kate out loud.

Except, she's gone and all but asked him for it so he leans back slightly, more relaxed, and quirks a half smile.

"Usually about you on your knees sucking my cock, if we're being honest."

"Maybe I'll ask you to tell me all about it later," Kate teases, eyebrow up and cheeks sucked in to keep from laughing at how guilty he looked just before he admitted it.

Instead of stepping into reach, she steps back as she lifts the jacket off and lets it pool off to her side where she won't get tangled in it. "But right now, there's a different fantasy I've got in mind." She knows he has to remember the note she left him about this one. They've been teasing about a little black dress for weeks. He just didn't know she'd gone and made one.

Kate tries out the lie that it doesn't matter he looks so happy with her and rejects it as too outlandish to stick with. It matters, it matters a lot, and she skips hiding the fact it matters in favor of turning for him so he can see the back.

"Thanks, babe," she says and she thinks it's probably the first time in years she's honestly thanked a guy for a compliment. "Just wanted, you know, to help keep you busy." So he won't think about home and stuff. He probably gets that, right?

"I believe busy is one thing I'll be," Declan says, shifting to sit up a little straighter. He wants to touch her, smooth his hand over her back where it's bare, and stops himself.

"Please tell me I can touch you?"

Startled, Kate laughs. "What're you gonna do if I say no, huh?" Not that she is. It's her fantasy too and she's kinda hoping in a few minutes she'll be bent over the railing out back. That's one advantage to living the middle of effing nowhere.

She turns again, walking toward him and smirks. "You better touch me, babe. I didn't go without panties for my health." Well, not exactly. But him fucking her stupid's great for her health.

"Anyone ever tell you that you're a cheeky bint?" Declan says and even though it's a mild insult, he's fond in his tone and he doesn't really mean it.

He stands, though, and slides his hands along her bare back. "Think I'm going to have to do something about that."

He always lights her up when he touches her, but she's been thinking about this all damned day and even just the warmth of his hands on her skin is enough to make her shiver. It's kind of unnerving how quick he gets to her, so of course she makes with the lie it's nothing to her. He knows better and it won't last long, but it's who she is.

"Yeah? You figure I'm just gonna let you bend me over the nearest thing to a bathroom counter?" Pro-tip, the answer's fuck yes, and the less prep and foreplay the better.

"Not a matter of letting, exactly," Declan says, hoping they're on the same page about that. "Pretty sure you're craving it, aren't you?"

His grin goes wicked. "I bet, if I got my hand under that skirt, you'd be soaked."

If anyone else said that to her, she'd use what Steve's been teaching her and put them on the ground. Declan's more than promised he'll never take her without her consent. He's so careful about it, it's a relief to hear him talking like this.

She dips her chin and raises her eyes, smoldering at him. "Guess you're gonna have to try it and find out."

Declan takes that as his invitation and slides his hand under her skirt, fingers teasing and playing in the wet between her thighs.

"I was right, sort of. I want more, though, and I want you hot for me. Can I get you that way?"

Her eyelashes flutter, breath catches, she has to bite the inside of her cheek to keep from giving away the game.

God it's just stupid how hot she is over this. It won't be exactly the same as the dream, when she'd been taunting him all night. But Declan always wants her enough to make sure she knows it. She's pretty sure open fly and rucked up dress will be all the holyfuckhot she needs.
