It's not always true. If you're good with a lift, it's easy. But if you're sloppy or inexperienced, it can be hard when people are guarding their livelihood.
"I never stole from mom and pop stores, though. They were just trying to get by, like me. Seemed wrong." She shrugs, almost embarrassed by that.
